WADDINGTON’S WHOT

When I was little, we used to have alot of boring moments especially when PHCN (then NEPA) decided to forget our area on purpose. during the weekends or on holidays, we used to just sit around staring at each other or play in the sand until we got tired. it was like this until the Lord used our neighbors to introduce this God give card game that my children may never get the chance to play

WHOT

People have names for it.

Some people call it “Card” “Last Card” “Whot Cad” and so on.

We were so many in the house then, so we usually ended sharing all the card to everyone until there was no General Market. It even got to a point when our cousins started joining us, so we had to use two stacks at once.

For the 2000 kids, WHOT is a game made up of 54 cards with number 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,10,11,12,13,14 and 20 on them with different shapes:

  1. SQUARE (BLOCK, RECTANGLE)
  2. TRIANGLE (ANGLE)
  3. CIRCLE (O)
  4. STAR
  5. CROSS

Each card has a function but there are specific cards that are weapons of warfare..lol..

Number 1 is Hold on which means you must wait a turn and the next player deals

Number 2 is pick two which means you must take two cards from the General Market

Number 8 sometimes means suspension which is the same as number 1.

Number 14 means General Market which means you must pick a card from the general market.

Number 20 means whoever deals it, gets to request for any card of his/her choice.

This very common but uncommon game of cards thought me a lot.

It thought me:

STRATEGY: When you are dealt a stack of card, you don’t just play, you plan on how best to avoid being beaten and how to win. In life, you have to know what you want, develop a plan, before you act.

LIFE IS A PERSONAL RACE: Each person has his own secret stack of cards. Revealing it to the next person will make you vulnerable to loss. Keep your plans secret until its time for you to act. When you act, people will then see just what you want them to see

PATIENCE: While I hoarded all those my Number 2s and 14s, I saved them for the last to make my victory a sweet one. You know nau

“Pick 2, Pick 2, Pick 2, Hold on, Go Gen, Last Card, Check!!”

HOW TO JUST BE WICKED FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER: It is only when you say Last Card, that Number 2s would just start appearing from nowhere lol

This game did not just keep me occupied during boring weekends or holidays, it taught me a lot of lessons that I can never forget.

SECOND TO LAST CARD,

LAST CARD,

CHECK UP!!
