Hello guys! It’s true! The Blog is one! 😆😆

I cannot believe it has been a year of constant blogging. I must confess keeping you guys entertained and informed all at the same time has been big wahala! And you know what? I love your wahala ;);).

I started this blog which was formerly known as GirlUp n Walk on the 19th of September, 2015 (two days after my birthday). I formerly owned a blog ( which I had been running for almost a year but I left it to start afresh.

Why did I start afresh?

I started afresh because it was something I had to do. I had been thinking about starting not just a blog but my whole life afresh by August last year when I was done with my final year exams and I thought to myself  “oh you’re starting a new life journey, why not start a blog and base that blog on this journey?” And that’s how my baby was born.

I had spoken to a few people about it including Bamiyo of BAMZIE’S blog about it and the support I received was unexpected actually. This 100 percent support was all I needed to kick start the movement.

With me at the beginning was Ijeoma Unachukwu who is an awesome writer, you should check her posts out, they are still available on the blog. Her write ups brought in traffic that I still don’t understand till date. Lol Yes! She is that good. I also had Mercy who was constantly giving the readers updates on make-up and skin and then Anita who wrote articles that made the readers feel good about themselves.

100th POST! YAY!

Hello everyone! Hope we are good!

Sorry I have not been around for a while, I have been waiting till this special day to put up the 100th post on this blog.

What has made today special? It’s my birthday! woohooo!! *Imaginary balloons and confetti*

To be honest, this happiness and joy I feel today can only be compared to the way I felt when my younger brother was born in 2010. I feel improved sort of like femaleigboarch 2.0 or something. I am happy because I have reviewed my life and I have discovered that I am not the same person I was in 2015. I think that’s why birthdays exist because they serve as milestones to help you measure how far you have gone in your life. It also gives you the opportunity to scan your life for things that you haven’t done or achieved. It gives you the need to devise new means or methods to achieve the said goals or to improve on the already existing means and methods.

It’s not like i’m going to have an awesome party with loud music and cake, but this feeling alone is enough to make my day. I’m so excited and happy with myself!

Today has thought be that God actually crowns people’s efforts. When you set your mind out to do something and you go for it the right way, your effort is recognised and rewarded. Don’t limit yourself with wrong mindsets, stereotypes or negative statements. I must confess there were low times when I would look at myself and ask myself:

“What do you think you are doing? You can’t be better than this can you? Just relax and stop making noise. Nobody will ever read your posts or even understand what you are saying why bother?”

“Look at her/him, he just does it and it works, why bother yourself struggling for something that just won’t work like his/her own?”

Yes, yes, even I fall for the trap the devil sets with comparison and envy. When this happens, I shrug it off and do my own thing anyway! Oh did I tell you, will be one in three days time! :D. It was actually registered a few days back but I made my first post on the 19th of September, 2015. On that day, I am going to share 24 throw back posts, two from each month so  prepare for your timelines to be raided!

So, this is it, the 100th post!

Thanks a lot to you guys, this blog would have been nothing without your comments, likes and shares. I hope I will live long enough to keep giving you posts to read and enjoy. Thank you and God bless.

Oh and don’t forget! Natural Hair Babes is hosting a natural hair meetup in Awka, Anambra state! Tell  your friends! Download the temp flyer below and share with your friends with hashtag #nhbAWKA16 !

Good day dearies.

Its been a while yeah? This is that time of the semester when I am just busy and am occupied for at least two weeks. Right now, i’m supposed to be doing a group assignment, and two other term papers. I am also supposed to be reading for an exam I have on Monday and the other one I have on Tuesday. I also have a mini defence in about two weeks too.

I was previously on DIY crochet braids that I made with three packs of expression multi. To be honest, I don’t know how that protective style came about. Three weeks ago, I just woke up from a nap on a Sunday morning and decided to make my hair because exams were coming up very soon and it just happened.

Hello my beautiful ladies. Hope y’all are doing great. We are back with another MAKEPUP 101. Today I want us to talk about something I noticed of recent. I know we all want to look good especially when it comes to our makeup but I noticed most ladies attempt the winged look and end up doing something off. Well I’m here to help you guys.

The winged look is something anyone can do but it takes PRACTICE to be PERFECT. Let’s begin with the makeup tools for this look.

First, you need a black gel liner, liquid eye liner or a black marker eye liner. If you are using a black gel liner you need a good angle brush(small).

1.  Draw a thin line upwards at the outer corner of the upper lash line.

2.  Draw a second line thicker than the first, starting from the middle of the first line drawn slanting towards the middle lid.

3.  Draw another line connecting the second line to the inner part of the eye or inner lid.

4.  Fill in the spaces with the gel liner, liquid liner or marker liner.

5.  For a matte finish, dab a black eye shadow to it.(optional)

There you have it!!! Your winged look. As usual I’ll leave a tutorial pic for a better explanation. And remember to always PRACTICE… Enjoy the weekend and Mercy loves you…*kisses*

Acne is a dreaded “situation” amongst young people. I am sure you are familiar with the phrase “fine girl, no pimple” lol so pimples in this case are not associated with fine people. As a growing girl, I never really had issues with acne because my mum fought it off with all her strength. It was until I got into the university that I began to have issues with acne.

Acne can be caused by a lot of things, some genetic and some hormonal. However, there are common and not-so-serious causes of acne in young people. Some of them include:

Dirty pillowcases and other things that come in contact with your face.
Whenever my face starts to break out and I’m around my mum, the very first question she asks is: “When last did you wash your pillow case?”.

Pillowcases have the tendency to accumulate dirt because when we sleep, we sweat, we drool, we sneeze, etc. If you allow all that dirt to build up for more than a week, there is a possibility that It will cause you to break out. I also believe that there are certain types of textile you should look out for when buying a pillowcase. Cotton or silk pillowcases are the best for you face. Satin pillowcases are not really nice compared with silk or cotton pillowcases because they do not really absorb oils. However if you are a naturalista and you really have to use a satin pillowcase there are many way to handle this issue. You may wear your hair in a pineapple updo or you may put on a satin cap instead of using a pillowcase altogether, it works for me. Bottom line is, you need to keep your pillowcase and other stuff (face towels, make up brushes, etc) clean at all times to avoid buildup of dirt which will in turn block your skin pores and cause acne.

Picking/Bursting pimples
Sometimes I hear people say: “Come lemme burst ya pimple” kai!

Please o, pimples are not for bursting, they can do it by themselves if you let them be. Keep your hands off your face!

If you notice a pimple on your face that has a yellow head, there are many ways to deal with it instantly, one of which is my little sister’s garlic method. If you aim at “bursting” your zits when they are “ripe” you will get them infected and then they will turn into bigger zits. When they turn into these bigger zits due to infection, they leave black spots when they heal.

I used to have this one zit on my nose and it was very annoying. It was just right there at the tip of my nose, yellow and big! Smh. One day I just got impatient and popped it. When I woke up the next day, it was bigger with another yellow head and even more painful. Now I have a semi-black spot at the tip of my nose.

Don’t pick or pop your zits please, they will pop or dry up on their own.

Horrible personal hygiene
This just has to do with how bothered you are about the cleanliness of your skin, your clothes, and your surroundings. Keep your environment and yourself clean because, it is a safe way to live. Staying clean keeps acne and any other horrible thing away from you. Make sure your face is always clean and dry at all times so that your pores can breath. If you have really oily skin, you can get cosmetic blotting papers to remove excess oil from your face especially when you have make up on. If you are too tired to take a bath at night, try at least to wash your face before going to bed.

Pimples are not nice and these things are easy things you can do. Just find a way to make them habits and you’re good to go.  Let’s start this week with a happy, healthy and pimple free week!

Hello Ladies!!! Am so sorry for no posting for a while now . Hope y’all are good health wise and makeup wise ;). Well am back with another brow tutorial. I know I post more on brows, this is because I want you all to be perfect when drawing or filling your brows and not just depend on brow pencils. So let’s go there!!!…

First you need your mascara wand/ spoolie brush, brow gel, angle brush or brow brush, concealer (a shade lighter than your skin tone and a shade that matches your skin color).

1. Groom your brows if they look bushy.

2. Brush your brows with the spoolie brush.

3. Dip the brow brush in the brow gel and then draw a line following the shape of your groomed brows(do not over dip and make sure not to start from the beginning of the inner brow line)

4. Using your mascara wand, brush the gel into the brows to fill it in or fill in with little brow gel using the brow or angle brush and then brush to remove defined lines and evenly fill in the brows.

5. Apply the lighter shade of concealer beneath the brows and then blend it downwards getting rid of defined lines. Do the same above the brows with the concealer that matches with your skin tone/color and blend upwards.

6. Look at your brows 😌

Alright ladies, let me drop a pic guide as usual. Please keep practicing to be perfect… Mercy loves you all *kisses* And I wish you all a lovely, peaceful, stress free and blissful week. 😘😘

Where Should Your Brows Start? Arch? and End?

Hello my pretty ladies!!! Hope we are all ok and practicing our makeup looks. Well am back with the brow tutorial just to help those that are still struggling with their brows. This tutorial will help you know where your should start, arch and end. Let’s begin then.

Where should your brows start? – Taking a pencil, place it on the sides of your nose to make a straight line showing you where your brows should start.

Where should your brows arch? – Taking the pencil again, place it diagonally on the balls of your nose, crossing the middle of your eyes, now that’s where your brows should arc.

Where your brows should end? – placing the same pencil diagonally crossing the end of your eyeball is where your brows should end.

Alright ladies, this tutorial should guide you to your perfect brows. Remember to keep practicing and never be afraid to play with your eye shadows, trying different looks. Enjoy the weekend and as usual I have left you guys with pictures to guide you.

Foundation and Powder Applicaton

My pretties!!! It’s another makeup day and am here with another makeup technique… By the way hope we all had a lovely week cause it’s the weekend and it’s time to let loose, chill and catch some fun… Hope we all practiced drawing our brows, eye shadow and lip application techniques??? Alright back to our topic for today.

First and foremost we’ll start with the makeup tools we need.

1. Foundation: get a foundation that matches your skin tone/color. It’s always advisable to test it on your hand preferably the back of your palm or on your jaw line just above the neck to make sure it blends well into your skin color. Preferable products marykay,Tara the makeup, and Mac.

2. Foundation primer

3. Foundation brush

4. Powder: Tara the makeup, sleek,Iman, marykay etc. Same shade with your skin color or a shade lighter.

5. Powder brush.

1. Mix the foundation and foundation primer on the back of your palm or makeup palette if you have one or you can apply the foundation primer on your face using the foundation brush then apply the foundation next using the same brush. But it’s always advisable to mix both first.

2. Apply the mixture to your face. Always be careful not to ruin your eyebrows, lip or eye shadow. Brush backwards towards the ears, hair line and neck.

3. Apply powder with the powder brush for a finished look.

Viola!!! There you have it your simple makeup look. Stay tuned for a complete pro makeup look… Make sure you PRACTICE!!! PRACTICE!!! PRACTICE!!!… Enjoy the weekend!!! Ciao…

Hello ladies, darlings, dearies, lovelies :* ;)… I can keep going but have to stop here for now. Hope you are all good because am feeling awesomely good this morning *winks*.

Did we try  the eye shadow look??? And hope we are close to perfecting our brows. Always remember to PRACTICE!!! PRACTICE!!! PRACTICE!!! :D… Ok ladies, today we’ll be focusing on the lips. How to get those wonderful, attractive, sexy lips…

Please we must all remember that makeup is different from skin care. They are two different things. If you take care of your skin then you are 100% guaranteed of a very flawless and perfect makeup like that of the nollywood veteran actress Monalisa Chinda and many others. Good skin care comes with a flawless look even without makeup.

Alright, let’s get down to business. The way we make our lips look when we are on makeup can either draw good or bad attention and I know we all do not want the bad/wrong attention so let’s get to know the right way to apply lipstick or lip gloss.

First, get a good lipstick/lip gloss and please if you have full lips stay away from shiny and bright lipsticks and lip stains/gloss.

Secondly, get a good lip liner(s), any color but make sure it matches your choice of lipstick. For those new to makeup I prefer you use same color of lip liner and lipstick because if you use different colors you’ll have to blend them properly getting rid of visible defined lines. A well blended lip with a different lip liner and lipstick should look like this just in case we wish to try it.

Finally, get a lip brush (optional). You can apply it the normal way you do but make sure it’s neat.

1. Prep your lip with little concealer same shade with your skin.

2. Line your upper and lower lip with the lip liner. Please if you have full lips make sure you line the inner part of your lip do not line edges just the inner natural lining.

3. Apply your lipstick and dab carefully.

4. That’s all. Just do the finishing touch to your look.

Please remember my posts for now are basic. It’ll be a step by step post on how to apply makeup for those that are just learning. Thanks!!! More tips are yet to come for my advanced and professional ladies.

Have a lovely weekend ladies and make sure y’all keep practicing. Your lips should look like this when you’re done.
